We Got The Mic
We Got the Mic, a youth-led media team hailing from the west side of Chicago, is on a mission to enhance the representation of authentic images and stories within the west side and its five communities. Our overarching objective is to close the divide between the experiences of residents and how these experiences are portrayed by major media outlets.
Our strategy involves fostering robust connections and leveraging digital platforms to empower both the youth and community residents. Through these efforts, we aspire to reclaim the narrative of the west side, providing a platform for the voices that often go unheard. With a focus on advocacy, we aim to utilize our voices to champion the causes and concerns of ourselves and our communities, contributing to a more accurate and inclusive representation in the broader media landscape.

In our podcast program, youth dive into the world of storytelling as they learn the fundamentals of creating a podcast show from inception to completion. Through hands-on experience, participants develop essential skills, gaining the ability to craft compelling narratives and share their unique stories with the world.
